Marketing Apprentice

“I graduated from the University of Warwick with a degree in History. I wasn’t sure which route I wanted to go down, so I took a year out to gain some work experience and see if there was a route that appealed to me. After some research and lots of volunteering, I decided I wanted to explore marketing apprenticeships.

I chose FCDO Services because their apprenticeship seemed comprehensive. I was looking for a programme that accepted graduates and was a Level 4 or above. I was intrigued by the type of work FCDO Services do, and the connection to government was definitely something that drew me to this apprenticeship.

I split my time between the marketing and customer experience teams. Day-to-day, I’m involved with creating and sending out customer online surveys; booking and note taking in customer interviews; and various stages of the reporting process. I also have college sessions two to three times a month, which provide an overview of theoretical marketing concept. These sessions also give me the opportunity to discuss ideas with the class and get clarity on anything I don’t understand.

I value the company culture and there is a really nice working environment. You don’t feel like you’re thrown in the deep end and there’s a good work/life balance. Having colleagues who are supportive and always willing to help is really important because, as an apprentice, you need to rely on others to learn.

My team have really welcomed me. They include me in meetings and often ask for my opinion even at such an early stage. They really encourage me to push myself and give me the opportunity to develop my skills.

When you work for FCDO Services, it feels like your job is important. You hear stories of colleagues making a real difference and doing important work, which keeps both assets and people safe, at home and abroad. I think that everyone is really appreciative of work you do at any level, which gives you the motivation to do well and participate as much as possible."
